I've never used TOAF - sounds scary
Weird, same behaviour with both keys? Red lights operating?

Toaf is scary, I've been using it since it came out but don't have much choice in my location. There are functions I've never tried, or will do unless someone more experienced advises. But it's also a Godsend for us miles from any T4 (in my case about 1000km from a proper operator) and I've reprogrammed remote boards with it. Would advise a good look around in "read only" mode before attempting anything, and then only after making back-ups of any modules you are thinking of "writing" to - in this case the BCU so if things don't work out you can always "restore" the module.

No, no red lights. Then sharp tap to case, press again, red light flashes, door opens. Till the next time – or maybe in a few days.

The one in the old case (with a hole in the “unlock” button) works fine.

I’ll carry the old one around with me for now, in the other pocket! I want to be sure exactly what’s going on, as I’ve lost track of which board is in which fob now – need to mark them

If your old holed case works fine then the boards are ok then something else is playing up. If they’re the same cases I’ve got then the buttons are quite soft and should active the switches, obviously they don’t. You could try a millimetre or two of sticky tape to bring the buttons closer to the switches or some packing under the board to bring it fractionally higher.

Otherwise, it’s difficult without seeing things. You might be able to find secondhand unholed Valeo cases but I know of no new ones.

And, unbelievably, I've managed to lose the suspect board from my pocket. I am SO careful, but it seems to have gone.

My mechanic has T4, and knows how to make keys - can I just get a spare board from somewhere and he'll be able to reprogram it?

He will need the barcode for the remote PCB in order to programme it with T4 Roger, If you obtain a second hand PCB, I'll generate the barcodes for you

Cheers Brian - all I have to do is find a board now! I think maybe my spare one was intermittently faulty anyway, and not just the microswitches.

Where do people get boards like this - scrapyards? I kind of assumed the scrapper would want to sell key, ignition switch, door locks and everything together
