smokey and running rough
helllo i have a cdti that was running ok then started to run as if it was running on two cylinders and smoking ,it would take 20 seconds to start gradually sounding like it would run then it would kick in and smoke so bad that i couldnt risk driving it to the mechanic.the smoke is black in colour,i was told it could be injectors so i pulled the electrical connector off each in turn and found that two seemed to be off so swapped them and still the same,i cant think of anything else that would make it run so rough, ive ordered a pcv filter but cant see that making the difference, the car doesnt seem to be serviced recently looking at the state of the air filter .sorry for the essay

Have a look at the EGR valve - sounds like it might be sticking open.
If you want to rule out the PCV then take the top off it and run the car up - it should idle fine with it removed. |

Also make sure the ECM isn't swimming as this can definitely lead to injector load drop problems
