Powerfold Question...
If a powerfold mirror doesn't work, and is "loose" (i.e. you can open / close it by hand with next to no resistance), is it dead or repairable?

repairable, we hope. Have a look at this thread, the last couple of pages shows the gear Trebor hopes will work, http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=98558. Trebor has ordered some of the BMW gear's so will I am sure update once he has them.

Seriously though, someone forced my Dad's off it's castelations. Managed to reset it and it's been fine ever since. It was nearly new though. |

The problem is,if the mirror has been forced back and then physically moved back to it's intended position damage to the motor will be sustained.
The slightest play will result in a wobble of the mirror body at Motorway speeds. |

Your worm gear may have stripped but i am working on a solution so dont scrap it, maybe replace with a non powerfold and hang onto it.
This is the motor that is in your mirror and the gear in question which wears Should you decide to scrap it i would be interested in the worm gear even if stripped as it can be used for the replacement project

The gear wearing the outer casing and as a result fallling out of mesh with the other gears and then starting to wear is an issue, what did you use a shim ?

Think it was 0.5mm or 1mm thick shim steel strip cut to suit. It was only done as a temporary repair but I haven't been able to source a replacement so it is still in there.
It took the play out and with plenty of grease hopefully it should keep going. Mike |
