We'll be coming from Whitley Bay so would Throckley be best for us?

yes , come from Whitley to Throckley ,otherwise you cross the Tyne to go to the Metrocentre which is south of the river, only to turn round and come north again. Kev I will give you directions of where to join the A68 north from Corbridge for your return journey on Sunday
