Rich,

I find out at 9:30 am next Tuesday the outcome of a redundancy consultation in work. Of the 4.7 (full time equivalent) staff, 0.5fte has to go! So I may be expected to take a 50% pay cut!!! This recession is hitting all - hard! Unless of-course you're a Banker, or Tory politician!!!

The huge majority are paying for the greedy excesses of the privilidged few!!!

In some cases yes, those who were pushing irresponsible lending to everyman and his dog regardless of whether they could afford it have a lot to answer for.Never the less nobody made people take on unnecessary debts that they couldn't repay,it's called showing some personal restraint (as Parker's Dad wisely knew ).The economy was not booming over the last 15 years, the feelgood factor was built on credit, and now it has to be paid back.

Credit is the devil, one of my staff took out a pay day loan of £50 with one thing and another a month later she then came to me for help as she was now owing over £200, I was furious, not with her ( though she could have come to me sooner) but that these legal money lenders can bang on admin fees and 1700% APR. Vile business.

There is always something in the back of my mind that is angry with me for being hard working and honest. I see many local business men who over charged, did shoddy work and such of the like, they don't seem to be struggling with their new E class convertable or Audi A8.

At least I know there was nobody ripped off by me, I can sleep at night.

I have no debt, no credit cards, no loans, owe no one money and everything i have is bought and paid for. Yet i had no accept my hours being cut and loseing at least a third of my monthly take home pay. This whole sorry mess needs to be sorted out now..

And if i hear the current goverment saying " well we inherited this from the last goverment" once more i will flip..

You have been in power long enough now, get your finger out and get it sorted..

I have a rather simplistic theory to get some movement in the economy ... at the moment the Bank of England is pumping Monopoly money into the banking system to get the banks to lend to small businesses and the like. Which is great if a) the banks wouldn't just hold on to it and refuse to lend, and b) the small businesses customers could afford to spend more anyway, so that they could get the income to pay back the bank.

Why not give US a share, each, of the, what is it so far .... nigh on £400 BILLION rather than give it to the banks. Then, each of us would be able to repay our meagre debts (compared to the banks) and would then have more disposable income to spend into the economy as a whole. The banks would also benefit from the debt repayments (but we can't have everything!).

Simplistic and flawed, I know .........

Give the money to us, but not to pay debt ! 20% vat to the treasury and a boost for businesses. (although I would rather pay my debts)

An extremely vile business, supported by people who can see no further than the ends of their noses. One after another seems to be springing up - they must be making massive profits and they sell the loans as if they were the normal thing to have to do at the end of the pay month

I was brought up to only spend money that was already in my pocket.

I notice the Wonga ad used to have the APR printed at the bottom of the screen, but that now seems to not be there any longer. Have the regulations changed?

On the general theme of the thread....

This country's economy seems to spent my entire working life going through a series of boom and bust. It can't be good for any country's economy to be constantly going through these phases. People are put out of work and the country then ends up paying to support them.

There was an interesting repeat last night on TV which described what happened to the UK's ship building industry. Immediately post war we were building 50% of the worlds ships, turning them out as fast as we could build them, to replace the war losses. No time to modernise the ship yards, they continued to use old worn out machinery and methods plus the multitude of unions/ restricted practises. The old methods gradually priced us out of the ship building market and many thousands were put out of work - all for the sake of short term gains, while we were viable in the world market.

The same happened to our car, motorcycle and many other industries.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

Yes, the new government always blame the last government for the problems while the small man suffers the cuts, job losses and pays for the mistakes. The bankers and the politicians never take any cuts in their pay and still get their pensions in full.
