Climbing small hill this morn in my 2.0 CDTi Auto and heard loud, long twang!!!!!!!
Wondered whether something snapped - maybe just ran over something and it hit the bottom tootled along bit further went over a ramp and another twang (not so loud) Anyone know what has happened/snapped? |

Sounds like a snapped spring. Suggest you get it on a ramp and check before it goes through the sidewall.

Could be a top stret bearing but this is normally more of a knocking however I have felt a twanging from it in the past.

Always play on the side of safety, get the springs checked out just in case.

They can come off their mount and go into your tyre, which doesn't bare thinking about if it happens while on the move. I would get them checked out ASAP. |

Ouch - if so it will be my 3rd R75 and my 3rd broken spring - only had this car couple weeks
How much should it cost me to repair spring? Kwikfit quoted me £500 last time for both side springs/shocks |

A broken spring doesn't mean you have to replace the shock as well. I would go to a local reputable garage. |

Took it to garage and he test drove it and checked it on the ramps and says all four springs are fine
It's same sound I've heard before on previous Mk1 Rover 75 - it's quite a twang and the mechanic says like me - it sounds like the springs are not broken but one of them is moving which causing it to twang On my previous R75 i just left it and it eventually (months later) went away . |
