Sounds like ether fuel filter has started to come apart, or cam / crank sensor.
Have a search as there is loads on these subjects. welcome along ....

Yep, search for "Orange Clip" and/or "Fuel Filter"

In my experience, once the fuel filter is slack enough to prevent starting, it will never start again. While I certainly agree that the filter is checked and fitted with the FOC (Fabled Orange Clip), this case seems more like the cam sensor issue. Maybe attention to both is called for.

Ah yes, that pesky camshaft sensor! Yup, if you're not starting when hot (but starting OK when cold), then the camshaft sensor is a likely suspect (but you still need to do the orange clip mod on the fuel filter). If the engine has no problem running once it's started, it's very unlikely to the the crank sensor.

Have you sorted the problem ? As my ZT 160 V6 has just developed the same symptoms. These cars are too pretty to be pushed away from the petrol pumps! Thanks Chris Last edited by Chris Day; 31st January 2009 at 19:15.. |

My 75 2.0V6 had this and a new Cam sensor fixed it, and others hae done the same. I think the magnet in the sensor ends up losing enough magnetism when hot to not work properly, but recovers when it cools down. |

Starting problem 75 2.5 V6.
Hi there, I have a 2000 X reg Rover 75 connoisseur SE 2.5 V6 Saloon (manual) and have starting problems. I can sometimes go to the car, remotely unlock it get in and on the turn of the ignition the car will start...what's the problem I hear you say...the problem then is, if I switch it off even after a longish run and then go to start it again it won't start. I can turn and turn and turn and it won't start. There isn't any problem with the battery as that is new, it doesn't sound sluggish at all...it just won't fire up...I can then walk away ...go back a while later and hey presto it will start. I cannot go anywhere for fear of being stranded by not having a car that starts each time. It only has 63k (miles) on the clock ...nothing is showing up on the dashboard...any suggestions please??
