Default message centre upgrade querie

i realise this has been brought up several times and debated but what is the final result.............

i bought a second hand 2.5 petrol rover 75 message centre cluster and stalk......

will i ever be able to use it properly?

i installed it and all seemed fine for a while then stoppped reading mpg etc
went to mg/rover specalists, says it wont be any use to me? wrong yac number etc

would i be better just buying a new one??

Yes, if you want all of the features of the IPK with message pack you will need a new one that should be installed with the computer stalk and set up using the T4.

There was a thread recently just about this issue.

Yes, Every 100kms the IPK compares the mileage stored in it and the backed up mileage stored in the Light Switch Module if there is a mis-match of more than 100km then it won't display the mileage or will throw up an ERR message.

Les @ SMC has some at one stage. Send him a PM.

Yes I think they possibly are, but someone with more in depth knowledge on this subject will clarify this for you.

To be perfectly honest if you are thinking of doing any upgrading to your car I would advise asking for help on this site. That way you will avoid making any unnecessary purchases of the wrong items. Les @ SMC and Greeners will always advise on what you require.

I have carried out numerous upgrades to my car and have been guided in the right direction by Les and Greeners.

Used IPKs cannot be re-programmed.

The stalk will be OK, though.
