Assume we are talking about the front suspension? If so then could be the lower arm and rear bush but most garages would be able to isolate the play to one or the other, or are they saying both need replacing?

If it does turn out to be the lower arm and rear bush then you only need to do the side that is worn, and if the arm is worn then best to change the bush as well while it is out.

There are two ball joints and a spline/bush joint one each lower arm (wishbone). Neither ball joint is replaceable without renewing the arm. However, the spline/bush joint may only require a new bush to make it serviceable. The spline is unlikely to wear significantly. Bush replacement is discussed regularly and there's probably a How To if you need to know.

The usual advice is to avoid eBay budget priced bushes and pay for a good quality part from a recognised MGR spares supplier. The lower arm is Item 1 and the bush is Item 3 in this Rimmer listing: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID001541

Yes its front suspension, i will find out exactly tonight what was problem, when asked reply was 'movement in ball joint' and he showed me the wheel moved side to side a little (left to right) when on ramp.

Yes sounds like lower arm required and as mentioned worth changing the rear bush at the same time.

Surprised you got a pass as any play here will only get worse, and when it does you can feel the change in direction when accelerating and braking.

right it seems Jules has quality OEM bushes, is there a decent 3rd party lower arm anywhere even the aftermarket line one is £100 at rimmers!
