Default Fuel Starvation. Fuel pump? Help new questions added

Car CDTI 2003 109000 miles ztt.
Bought the car March this year and it has run perfect until today. When i accelerate it starts off ok then hesitates then pulls again and can start a bit of the kangaroos if held steady, worse between 2-3k revs and dosen't do it all the time but getting more regular. If i accelerate gradually it isn't as bad. The power still seems ok
When i got the car i changed all the filters and oil. It dosen't have a EGR valve anymore it wasn't there when i looked. it is fitted with a Roveron MAFAM MF1/75p
Any ideas folks i thought fuel pump but which one?? Also where would be the best and quickest place to get hold of any replacements its the daily driver and i want to go to mg live next weekend!
Thanks All

Before you go blaming the fuel pumps, how much fuel do you have in the tank?

This site http://www.mkon.co.uk/apps/webstore/...ts/show/948875 is widely regarded as one of best places to get replacements.

Could be a number of things causing your problems however.

Should have said just under half a tank at the moment.

Hi Stephen it does sound like fuel Starvation, you have two low pressure fuel pumps, one in-tank and one under bonnet, out of the two the most common one to fail is the in-tank one.

To check the in-tank one, disconnect the ubp first and get somebody to switch the ignition to position 2 (without starting the engine) and listen at the rear seat for a humming sound, this will tell you if your pump is running?

To check the ubp just feel it and you should be able to hear it running, the other things to check out are the following,
1 Maf sensor, unplug the sensor and see if the car runs better?
2 Injectors, have a leak back test done, as a faulty injector can give you this problem.
3 Check your intercooler pipe work out also o-rings, Steve

As it has around 1/2 tank of fuel I would suggest it isn't your in tank pump.

To check your pumps is simple. Turn the ignition on but don't start the car, you should be able to hear the pumps straight away for around 20 seconds. The in tank pump can be heard by listening around the driver's side rear of the car and the in tank pump is located to the rear left of the battery as you look from the front of the car.

The connector was loose on my under bonnet pump and simply pushing it on firmly cured my problem. Sometimes a sharp tap with a small hammer will also get the under bonnet pump working again, albeit temporarily.

Bit of a up date, just been out and turned on the ignition on, sound from the rear sounding a bit like a washing machine and a wirring from the front, need to disconnect the front just to check and will do that in the morning.
am going to disconnect the maf in the morning and see what that does.
Is there a way of finding out if a injector is not working without taking them out?
Thanks all

Does sound like your pumps are both fine.

Do you know when the fuel filter was last changed? Wonder if that is full of water/crud?

When you disconnect the ubp, before you put the electrical connector back on the pump, get a piece of fine emery paper and fit it to a flat end of a screwdriver, and gently rub the two connections in the top of the pump a few times and put some vaseline on. Then fit the plug, and disconnect it a few times before fitting it back on properly. Could not start my cdt and that was all it was 2 years ago, always been o/k since.

Morning all found the fault! Checked the pumps again this morning all ok cleaned as many connexions as i could get at. Took the car for a run and the first 5 minutes were great. Then it started again.
Stoped and pulled the plug out if the MAF and away we went all the way home no probs.
My questions now are.
How long can i run the car with it disconnected?
Has anyone heard of the mafam mf1/75p boxes giving trouble as i dont want to buy the cheaper maf to find out its the box at fault and then have to get either a new box or Bosch maf?
The best places to get hold of a new maf want to support members if i can.
Thanks all for the advice given last night it gave me a route to follow.
Steve
