I bought my current 75 using a direct transfer (and Bultaco Sherpa I bought a while back) the seller saw the money leave my account & arrive in his - all good.
Great for the seller as they can see the money in their account before they let the vehicle go. Good for the buyer as they are not carrying large amounts of cash to some stranger's house.
Cash sounds good but unless you are very good at spotting forgeries you cant be 100% sure you haven't been left with a pile of monopoly money. And, if they are real wrong-uns, they then know you have a pile of cash in the house & you are well worth mugging.

Finally, make sure you transfer ownership asap. My son once sold an MG and trusted the buyer to send off the V5. They never did and he got and endless stream of speeding tickets and parking tickets

Snap! I had a Scirocco that came back to bite me in the ar5e, got a string of fpn s for no tax. I had to write to dvla and tell them that I sold the car 4 months previously to someone called ... from a place further north, they then removed my name as reg’d keeper.
