Default 190 coolant strangeness & loss

So had to call AA out Monday night as exhuast back box dropped but he routinely checked the oil and coolant and found no coolant!

Strange it hadn't overheated as been driving it for 20 mins by then...

So he pressure tested for 5 minutes at 5 bar all ok...

So he topped up and ran it for a while all ok again so wasnt too worried but thought get to mechanic soon!

Yesterday thought check it again before going out all gone again ..so topped up and went for a drive and heater working fine etc then got home and all gone ...topped up again and left it to cool.

This morning went out engine cold and opened cap to find all gone again..topped up and ran with cap off and it filled with pink coolant and then overflowed?

So put cap on and ran for 10 minutes no overheat and couldnt see any leaks in V of engine. Turned off and cooled for few minutes then opened cap and coolant leaked out of top and and settled to above fins...

So any ideas on whats going on? no mayo under oil cap and coolant looks clean...

I would check the thermostat even thought it tests OK, look in the vee to see if it is grungy. I would also look at the header tank o ring seals.

Hi.
First port of call, thermostat housing
Next water pump.
Next two coolant pipe below radiator
Next any general leak, look carefully around the edge of the radiator.
Inlet manifold gaskets (but that should start to show as moisture under filler cap)
Radiator cap (might be venting too early, replace)
Leaking inside by the liners (should also show up on the oil filler cap)

I wonder why this sounds so familiar to me??

Oh, yes, my discussion with Clark Kent! http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...=121416&page=3

Oh, and don't ever check the engine while the coolant is hot. It will never give the right results. And don't worry specifically if the coolant spills, when hot. It will expand and overflow when not under pressure from a closed cap.
