They came back with many tales but the the one that sticks in my mind was this: Doing a but of window shopping. A guy comes running past, being pursued by a Police officer. STOP! shouts the officer. He carries on running. All the "locals" flatten themselves against the buildings..... The first shot went to the sun. He carries on running. The second shot went straight between his shoulder blades. He stopped running, and living. Apparently 30 seconds later it was as if nothing had happened. Andy. |

Sadly any organization which is a public benefit, financed by taxpayer, will it seems fail to "come up to scratch" whilst it is treated as a financial business. It may be an outstanding service but if there is no profit to be seen, it doesn't seem to get support.
This Nation and it's support services are outstanding, and the fact that we are who we are, creates that situation for others to take advantage of. |

I've never quite understood where "business" comes into a "service"
Either you're in business to make a living/profit or You provide a vital national/community service. The clue is in the title Police Service Fire Service National Health Service That's not to say a service shouldn't run effectively but IMHO it's NOT there to follow business profit economics. Andy. |

Spot on. It all goes wrong however when these ‘services’ are allowed to run themselves without the due diligence that would be basic performance if it were a ‘business’.
Too many governing boards are filled with ex-politicians and social members who are there to fill roles on an equality agenda – proven excellence in a particular field seemingly irrelevant. They have become havens for those seeking a sinecure and a following wind from a friend in a high place to ease the way into grandeur not really warranted. Not all of course, but too often the ‘Chair’ is on semi-retirement until they find somewhere else where their former contacts can be of use. Not only do they not have to make profit, or even break even, but glaring errors of judgement are allowed to go unchallenged because of the hidden threat of dismissal. The few skills possessed by some officers are too often entirely ‘committee’ based only rather than the particular field of operation of the organisation. Public Life gets less public.

The "incompetent" in position of decision making reminds me of a "chat" I had many, many moons ago with a local Councillor.
They were on the (then) Fire Service committee. They were very proud that they had refused the Chief Fire Officer's request for 6 more Fire tenders and limited them to just 3. . During the chat it emerged that they had never been in the Fire Service. They didn't have any family etc. in the Fire Service. They had no previous working knowledge of the Fire Service. But, apparently, it was clearly obvious that the Chief Fire Officer didn't need 6 tenders to meet the requirements of the Fire Service's roles and duties and it was pretty generous that they got 3. Erm..... Andy. |

Next time somebody tries to tell you that you don't need a gun to secure your home, show them this video.
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/...ders-killing-1 Text is a bit garbled but I think the intention is not in any question.

The history of Gun legislation in the UK is interesting, hard to imagine you could buy a revolver over the counter in Edwardian times with very little in the way of formality or checks. Chris.S.
