more stupidity
I've also done too many to list, mainly involving electric shocks until it finally dawned on me that going carefully was trumped by turning off the power!
But the one that freaked me out the most was shoving with all my might to push out an old tree stump. The top snapped off and I fell over the jagged remnant sticking out of the ground. I was in a press -up position with the stake pressing onto my chest quite hard on my left side. It was an isolated location and I wouldn't have been found for days if the thing had broken off a few inches higher. |

In the photo, we are camping next to a river in the Mara in Kenya. I had to go into the long grass with a shovel to dig out for a poop. Through the long grasses, I caught sight of a Lion not far from where I was. Very carefully and quietly, I retreated walking backwards to our camp. For whatever reason, the lion did not attack and stayed away. Maybe I wasn't seen or he was not downwind of my smell. When I mentioned it to one of the park rangers, he said there had been a kill and it was likely the lion had just finished eating and was full.
