See this thread http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ghlight=engine
If you do a search this has been debated many times with everyone having their own needs and therefore preferred options & opinions. For me 1.8, look after it it's reliable, plenty of performance provided you don't want to be a boy racer, smooth, good on fuel for the size of car and better road tax (this is against the 2.5) Someone will soon come along and totally disagree

I was originally going to buy a 2.5v6 but the projected road tax costs were to be £405 a year.So i plumped for a 1.8T.
Then the government changed there minds and included cars up to 2006 on a lower tax band.So the costs are almost identicle band J and K http://direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Own...le/DG_10012524 notice the little star. I like the car i have and it is more economical but i would love to get to 60 that second quicker.Still i feel happy for the v6 owners paying the same as me for road tax It give me one more reason not to vote for the dopes that are in power. If they hadn't changed there minds i would be happier in my 1.8 but now i always think i could be in the v6. To sum up the V6 is more powerful smooth and reliable(head gasket wise). If you have the cash thats the one to buy, blow saving the planet. Last edited by Bobon; 10th December 2009 at 10:01.. |

I have the r75 2.5 V6 and would not have any other engine, mine runs on LPG so the fact that it is the Thirstiest of the bunch (not including the V8.) is not an issue.
it is smooth, powerful and will purr along quietly when you want or howl like a banshee all the way to the red line around 7,000 if you prod the loud pedal. As with any engine choice there are things to look out for, the variable inlet system can fail needing new motors or a whole new manifold in the worst case, this will not stop the car running but will reduce power and economy. the timing belts need doing at 90,000 or 6 years whichever comes first and will cost around £500. the KV6 does not suffer the head gasket problems of the K4. I feel that coupled to the auto box in the 75 is the way the car is ment to be. In my humble opinion of course. Richard |

V6 cambelt change and K16 headgasket job are similar price !Kv6 Cambelts last 90k miles ; K16 headgaskets don't usually make it that far Then the k16 still needs a cambelt change as well .
