Unhappy Oh Dear - Engine Oil Pressure Low

Hi Gents,
During my usual 30mile commute to work this morning, the OBC flashed up in red - Low Engine Oil Pressure, then within a minute or so a screeching sound, then the engine cut out. No warning, or temp fluctuation at all?
Car then refused to start, nearly starts then fades away, recovered back to Ridgeways in Rotherham who are so busy they may not even get to look at it and give me a prognosis until Monday
If its going to cost over £300 (Car cost me just £540 11 months ago) I may just break her and sell the much sought after options for retro fit and buy a ZT 190 Saloon which is what I really dream of owning it would seem. The really sad thing aside from the worry and inconvenience is that last night I completed a 200mile trip (not in my car) for a ZT Front bumper for the car which I was hoping to prep, paint and fit this weekend

Any ideas anyone, pulley, belt, engine failure, terminal? The list goes on.....

Thanks in advance, and hope you all have a great weekend btw, at least its Friday huh

Low oil pressure warning followed by screeching noises and refusal to start - brace yourself for Monday is the best advice here.

I'm afraid you will likely need a replacement engine - Lates is as usual spot on............

Good luck

Crikey Guys, OK well thanks for the heads up, I had better get ready to break the poor beast then as shes worth more in parts than as a non starter. Shall let you know of course when I hear the prognosis, but may I ask have you a hunch that leads you to think its game over, its soooo frustrating having to wait 72 hours to find out, as I love the car sooo much. If the worst happens though it wont be long before I'm scanning the salvage yards looking for an accident damaged 190

Thanks again Gents, I value your feedback.

Hiya Lloyd. I am very sorry to hear about the car problem.

I don't actually know where the oil pressure guage is on your engine, but something has obviously broken that allows the oil to escape into an area it shouldn't be in, and in turn the oil isn't getting to place it should be in, beyond that it is guesswork till Monday..

I hope it turns out to be an easy fix of some sort, but the grinding noise and non running would indicate it is serious..

I assume you have checked the oil level on the dipstick to see if there is oil in the engine?

Default Oh Darn It

Morning Gents,
Well Ridgeways (Rover MG Specialist in Rotherham) confirmed the bad news late yesterday, my engine is blown!
They ran a compression test, which showed had compression then when tried to start, it looses it.
They say would be costly to strip down and investigate (they know I'm on a budget), so I'm going to ask them to quote me for delivering back to my home as too dangerous to tow I'm thinking.

My plan is to now fit a 190 ZT engine, and a manual gearbox whilst I'm at it, so it shall probably be off the road for 4 to 5 weeks now I envisage.
I have sourced a manual low mileage 190 gearbox, and have the ZT V8 back boxes, along with ZT bumpers, and an alcantera interior next weekend, so may as well go the full hog and get my baby repaired.

My only concerns are ecu and loom swap required, and what other bits I shall need for the gearbox swap over, I have completed a BMW 525 auto to manual swap before and am hoping this wont be much more difficult than that (I had better start a new thread seeking advice on this)....

Anyway, apologies for the rant, just thought I'd share my misfortune so to speak.

BR,
Lloyd

Sorry to hear the bad news about the engine, I know you suspected it after the advice on here though.

Sounds like you've got an interesting project planned.
Certainly not an easy job, the mechanical bits and pieces shouldn't prove too much of a problem just a case of swapping the correct components over.

By far the biggest problem is going to be the configuration of the ecu's it's not just a case of swapping them over.

Before you embark on it I would suggest you look very carefully as to what's involved, then make you decision.

Russ
