Thanks to Lates
Went to lates yesterday and even though they relieved me of a load of money they in return replaced my cambelts, waterpump, auto box oil and brake fluid.
I'm assuming the idler and tensioner were replaced but I didn't notice as they were very quick and efficient. It's very disconcerting watching them work at pulling the car apart. But the way they put it back together gives you a lot of faith in the workmanship. They really know what they are doing. Nice guys and a great service. Thanks for the Coffee. Now All I have to do is get a quote to fix the sill damage they noticed whilst the car was jacked up.

I'll be checking the local cars over the next few days. For those that don't know I happened to be under the car about 4 days ago and this was not present. However yesterday it was when Lates were doing some work on it. I haven't driven the car for a few days so I know I didn't do it. Needless to day a few swear words may have been uttered.

This happened to a Mk3 Granada I owned some years ago. I was driving along a narrow country lane, when a Saxo driven by a 17 year old lunatic appeared from nowhere and hurtled past me. I had to pull the car tightly to the nearside very sharply, and a low rock on the grass verge struck the sill. All I heard was a slight scrape, but the damage was identical to Steven's photograph.
It was pulled out very effectively using one of those multiple welding pullers, at a cost of £100 in 1998. The same sill was damaged soon after, under the driver's door when a mechanic let the car drop off one of those four armed cup lifts. He claimed the lift's cup was defective, and the garage repaired and paid for the damage themselves. This damage was far more localised than Steven's, and was obviously caused by a jack. My Rover (almost identical to yours) has been damaged three times by these blinking lifts, and repaired twice. I have a dink in the sill at the jacking point under my nearside front door, which nobody will own up to, so I am going to have to live with it. Anyway, your damage is clearly rock or kerb damage, I'm afraid - whose been driving your car recently? Last edited by davidbooker; 7th July 2009 at 11:55.. |
