Fitting Heated, Electric Memory seats.

And I have one question.

The last post states that the seats are normally now powered when the ignition is off but I didn't think this was the case.

If this was correct how can holding the remote button move the memory seats when teh key has never been near the ignition?

Is this only the case if non memory seats are going to be used?

I was going to wire the seats so they are permanently live.

The memory and non-memory seats have a battery, not ignition, feed from fusible link 3 in the engine fuse pane to fuses 19 & 21 in the passenger fusepanel.
The memory ECU is connected to the K-Bus via which it receives the status of the ignition switch.

Interesting point. I only discovered recently that On both my V8 (memory seats) and 2001 KV6 (non memory seats) the seats are powered with doors open and no key in ignition, but are not powered once doors are closed until ignition is on.

Prob a totally useless point of information, but perhaps not

Hmmm. Now I'm looking at the wiring and I cannot work out why that would be. If the seats are always powered and the heaters work by switching the earth then what causes this?


Anyhow I'm busy now retrofitting the power to the seats and then I'll start with the heater switches and kbus for the memory.

I can confirm my Memory seats also work in the Way Mike describes.

Can be a pain when parked up,
but by opening door (even if seated) allows alterations without key in ignition and on.

Drivers memory seat: the ECU is permanently fed, and I assume it is woken and sleeps with KBus, so can do things like memory recall from the key, and moving without ignition on under set circumstances.

Passenger seat is permanent fed, but has a power relay that only switches on when the ignition is on.

Heaters are the same on both. There's a separate ignition feed. It comes direct from the ignition switch, and is only on with ignition, and switches off during starting. This also the feed that controls the passenger seat main relay.

I can agree with Mike.

My V8 [memory seats] and CDTi with aftermarket memory seats both work with the door open and no key in the ignition.

I discovered this while cleaning the seats and carpets..

There must be many types of wiring as the car I removed the seats from did not have the passenger seat move at all when the ignition was off as per lowedb's example.

The under seat relay requires the ignition on.

I'm wondering why it's a big 30 amp cable when it only provides power to a relay?
