Default Lockdown - Finally a decent film

The Martian started at 9p.m., on Film4, and so, with a glass of scotch I am settled into it, again, I do like this film.

Yes ... good film. Probably watched 3 times myself!

If you want more of the so called "science" aspects get hold of the book.

Gravity is another film I've watched a few times too. Even more spacejunk!

Happy viewing
John

Agreed, I could not put the book down. I do like Gravity but not as much as The Martian.

Didn't see that one. Did see however Brief Encounter with Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard. Not Sci Fi I know, but what a change from bang bang shoot 'em up. Not one swear word, nobody died or plotted or stole anything. Nobody lost their temper. B/W from 1945. And the clipped accents! Celia and I, not Johnson - my wife, were counting the chaste kisses. Less than a dozen. Some affair that was.

I was fortunate, I got the Kindle version of "The Martian" when Amazon had it as one of their free books, long before it got picked up as a film. A cracking read, and I couldn't believe it when I heard that were making a film version .

I found the production information very interesting. They filmed it using three bases, and quite a few of the cast never met each other. There have been several very interesting interviews, with Andy Weir amongst them.

I shall have to investigate further. I have the film on Blu-ray, but have never delved into the extras - hopefully there's some good stuff there waiting to be watched

Test screenings of the film were generally a success, but Howard was fascinated by the opinion of one 23-year-old who seemed to be aggravated at the film's climax, where the astronauts plop into the ocean unharmed. This, he wrote on a comments card, was “Terrible. More Hollywood BS. They would never survive.”

Made me smile
