Thanks Fred for the input mate, However if they did not give it one then that would back up the special colour theory. However this code is also on the door of the Rover 45 as CDX but again no way is this Firefrost or Copperleaf.
As a club we should be able to track down further information on this subject??? can't we. |

oops! Yes Dave and Fred have got it right
Xirallic is the type of finish so the 5 millionth Rover was Xirallic Aubergine as stated by MGR in their publication; back to school for me. Whatever, Happy Christmas all

The 'oh just stick CDX or whatever on it' idea certainly sounds likely to me, but it's also possible one of the ex-Rover guys might be able to shed some light - is Rincewind or anyone like that still knocking around here?

What Martin is saying does make sense.. It looks like a Copperleaf Red 45 with paint code CDX was re-finished in the 'special' Razen Brown as a tester for the 5,000,000 Rover 75 which indeed probably started out with a different colour.. It was common practise at MGR to modify cars including colour changes.. The famous launch MK2 ZT260 in Aurora as featured on Top Gear and Fith Gear did infact start out as an Anthracite MK1. As far as I know that car still bears its original colour code on the ID plate!
That 45 and indeed the 5,000,000th Rover '75' were finished in a one off colour that would never have been an option when ordering your new MGR back in 2003.

Here is an interesting quote from, The MG Rover news of 16th July 2003
Replica Five-Millionth Rover, to go on Sale! A replica version of the car built to celebrate the five-millionth Rover is to go on sale. The five-millionth, a Rover 75 2.5 Litre V6 Saloon, is painted in a new special Xirallic(r) Aubergine paint finish. It is upholstered with Oyster leather, and aubergine Trim with a Connoisseur SE specification, that includes Hi-Line satellite navigation and many additional top-of-the-range items that combine to make this a special Rover car. The Xirallic(r) paint finish is one of the newest developments in paint technology. It has chroma crystal effect pigments. These produce a very high lustre, a strong glitter effect and have distinct shimmer. The replica five-millionth Rover 75 Saloon will go on sale priced at £29,995, with a Sony DVD option at £2,499. It represents a potential saving of £2,000 over a similarly specified Rover 75 car. MG Rover built the five-millionth Rover car on Thursday, July 10, 2003. The off line ceremony was attended by the Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex. He congratulated MG Rover staff on this motoring milestone. The original five-millionth Rover car will be retained by the company, in preparation for Rover's centenary celebrations in 2004. I wonder if any more were made. Dave T |
