Default ATC climate control question...

Hi all,

Maybe it's me but it seems like the ATC on my car isn't really up to the job of keeping me warm in the winter.

Everything seems to work, it's great for demisting, Temp display goes up and down etc. but it seems to take forever to warm up and never really gets all that cosy.

I've a 45 minute motorway run every morning & I'll be at least 10 miles into my journey before it's warm enough for me to unzip my overcoat!

Has anyone else experienced this with their Rover?

All the best,

Damncar.

ps In comparison, my 25 year old 924 will be baking me within minutes of driving...

diesels do take longer to warm up. Make sure you press auto and it's not showing "eco" as then the air con will come on. should be hot within minutes. If "eco" press then that's just the heater which will take a while to warm up. I would book it into kwikfit for an aircon check / refill £25 odds that should sort you out. Does your air con blow ice cold?

Sounds like your thermostat may be stuck either open, or partialy open. My car gets very toasty after about 10 miles. .

Just to confirm that for maximum heater output switch the air con. off by pressing the 'Econ' button, ensuring that 'Econ' is shown in the display panel. This may result in window misting during wet or humid weather conditions in which case you'll have to use the air con. and increase the selected cabin temperature to 22 or more degrees C to achieve that toasty feeling!

Simon.

as above this slow warm up is a well known 'feature' of the (non-FBH) Diesels

Had the same issue on my 1.8 petrol until the heater matrix (which couldn't be flushed!) was swapped over.

If I had a diesel, I think I'd be putting a muffler over the radiator like we did in the old days during winter.

The Boss warms up the cabin quite rapidly, mind you I do miss the quick clear screen that we have on the Ka...Only that though I miss when I was using the Dave Gilmour CD case to get the white stuff off the screen this morning...No gloves and my fingers were well numb and not comfy.

There goes my G string...On the air guitar.

Cheers
Tony

Whilst diesel 75's do run on the cool side in comparison to petrol engines, they are more than capable of warming the car interior!!

If your heater is failing to do that, then there is something wrong, the most likely causes are a blocked heater matrix or a faulty thermostat.

E.G. my FBH is unplugged, (not working) but the car still gets as warm as toast fairly quickly within 3-4miles at the most, perhaps a bit further if I go straight onto the local motorway.

I believe that the m47r engine can run as low as 80c but that's still hot enough to fry eggs on! I think it translates into 195f ish! lol.
