I wish I'd hung on to my old 240 it was so reliable it's unreal but I sold it & decided to use my 940 again (had been tucked away 2 years) & that misbehaved uncharicteristicly & cost me a small fortune in 2 months so I decided to go for something newer & diesel in order to save a bit of cash & so far in 6 weeks it's cost me nearly £400 & I'm really disheartened

Regards Colin

Don't be too hastie A local exhaust shop should be able to help and replace the back box okay at a reasonable price. You have a great looking car there and you are bound to find odds and ends wrong, that is untill you get it up to your standard. If you basicly enjoy and like the car, get it fixed and carry on enjoying it. Just remembering reading all your posts and all the trauma you went through, when trying to get things organised when you purchased it recently

Telfer.

Know the feeling my wifes 04 plate low mileage Golf's gearbox gave up, cost £1300 to put right, then the repair people bodged it and it blew a hole in the side of it!!!

Finally got it back, next day two punctures in good Continental tyres that were non-repairable due it being lumps of metal embedded in them and another £170!

But we love the car and I couldnt have sold it for anything reasonable broken so swallowed hard and now touch wood it will be ok for another 50k miles!!

Sorry to hear of your car troubles Colin.

Stick with it, its the problem with second hand cars, you only buy someone elses problems. Your ZTT is a real eye catcher, a very nice example.

You'll get over it.

TBH a 6 year old car deserves a new exhaust, that really is about the life of even the high quality double skinned MGR box. Looking at mine after 4 years and 41K miles, I would say I'm up for a new backbox in the next year or so.

nearly 9 years on R40 and still going. The box has multi layers and it takes a lot to finally get through them all

I quite agree it's just that everything seems to have come along in the first few weeks of ownership & I was just getting myself in a tatty fettle
