air con compressor cutting out
Description of air con problem on R40 as given by garage doing the regas this morning:
system works normally until hi pressure pipe becomes v.hot then compressor cuts out to protect. Suspect a blockage in the hi pressure pipe. Can't be more definite without further investigations and strip out to find the blockage. Any advice on what this could be? Thanks Mike

It is possible that the HP side is restricted or blocked, this was offered to me as a possibility by a Rover A/C tech. On my car the problem was a lack of finning on the A/C condenser (the first bit you see behind the fan), so have a GOOD look at yours before spending money. If it is restriction in the HP side, the same tech (who is very good) told me the normal cure is to do a very long evacuation (1/2 hour) before a recharge. HTH Mick |

Had it replaced by Jules while he was sorting out another fan problem, the fins just crumbled away when touched.

The aircon was still working correctly with the fan on low speed and had a full gas charge before it was degassed but the high speed relay had burnt out, that's another story.
