Post Do I Have a Dual Mass Flywheel

Hi Chaps, is there a way of knowing whether I have a DMF or not without dismantling the engine/gearbox. I ask because at some point in time the clutch will wearout and if I need a replacement DMF I can start saving now. Thanks Paul

A clutch change does not mean a DMF change. Very few instances of this happening. DMF's usually go on for years more than a clutch.

Thanks GG and Mike. I was thinking along the lines that if the clutch goes and damages the DMF its going to be even more expensive so I just wondered if I had a standard flywheel or the expensive variety. Thanks Paul

Default Dmf

Just had a new flywheel, clutch and electric fan and ecu on my 04 75 TD 70k. Garage told me that I should get 60k from new clutch, only 60??? Cost me £1500+ ouch! Now two weeks later the alternator`s gone, however, the good news is that it`s NOT water cooled so it`s only going to cost £190.00 + vat + labour!! Need a lie down in a dark room!! Why are parts Sooo expensive, can we purchase thro` the forum?

thats very intresting what is different in the DMF that MGR used compared with the likes of GM were it is the case that the DMF will die long before the actually clutch?

and do the V6's have DMF?

Ye gods - that's frightening!!

I have heard that it's a false economy not to change the DMF when you get the clutch done as if it goes, say 12 months later, you have to face all the expense again. Or is that a load of tosh
