From memory, early V6's had a higher pressure PAS system which included the pressure switch. I might be wrong but I think the plastic cover was some sort of sound deadener to reduce pump noise ?

Project Drive saw the system changed to lower pressure and both the switch & cover were deleted.

I could be completely wrong of course...
