My A118 Wedge Dash Cam Installation
After a bit of research, I have recently decided to install a dashcam.
I wanted something that didn’t notice too much and an installation that would not have suckers and wires trailing about. The one I went for is the A118 type camera. I ditched the cigarette lighter adapter and wired it in via a 12v to 5v power adapter and a video connector lead to connect to my DD unit. The wiring was tucked in under the headlining and run down the behind the A pillar trim and glove-box. The power supply was connected via the fuse box, with an earthing point at the base of the A pillar. I am quite pleased with the results and I think that this unit blends in quite well: As I have mounted it to the left of the rear view mirror it is hardly noticeable from the driver's side and looks ok on the passenger side: I was not happy about the two plugs being visible, so I have adapted the wiring cover, that came with the kit, to fit in between the unit and the headlining. It needs a little fettling with a needle file, so I can get a better fit, but I think that it looks tidier. Regarding the unit itself, Techmoan has done a review on the unit that isn't bad: I got mine from a UK supply here for around £45 You probably could get one a bit cheaper if you purchased direct from China. Me, being a big kid, couldn't wait more than a couple of days. I might even post up some video footage myself one I have figured out how to put them on Youtube.

That looks a nice little camera.
How clear are the videos? I have a g1w in both zts but I'm looking to add another in the rear so may get one of these for the front and fit the ones I have in the rear.

I am quite pleased with the video quality, but I am no expert and can't compare it to anything else.
The reviewer, Techmoan has put up some downloadable video clips on their website, so you can have a look at the actual footage produced by this camera. Apparently putting them on You Tube degrades the quality. These are here http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2014/10...am-review.html

I like how you've adjusted the extra wire cover, didn't think of that with mine.
May have to borrow your idea if you don't mind. Andy

I would have mounted it a fraction lower to give some meat around the clip locating slot nearest the mirror. I haven't done the back of the wire cover yet, but that should be easy to cut as the top part as it will be pushed up behind the headlining and unseen.

I rest my case then, Westley.
You noticed the shopping bag straight away, but failed to spot the discreetly positioned camera.
