Default Early V6 front bank coil positions ?

I've just been checking in Haynes re front bank plug and coil positions on my early V6 with plugs and leads. I was very careful to take them off one by one and mark the positions. No 1 lead was connected to the middle coil. No 3 lead (middle plug) was connected to the coil on the driver's side of the engine (UK car) and No.5 lead was connected to the coil on the passenger side. The Haynes pic seems to show the leads and coils as Front, Centre and rear (ie 1, 3 then 5), which is what you would logically expect. Could someone with an early V6 please check their plug and coil configurations and advise please? Thanks in advance, Mike.edit- Just found this post re plug cap erosion:-

Edit:- OK, I've just re-read Haynes and I think that they may be suggesting labelling the end of the plug leads as Front, rear and centre in relation to the coils to which they connect. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt! I prefer to label the plug leads as 1, 3 and 5 and label the coils in a similar manner to avoid any confusion when refitting. I usually use white paint in a dice dot configuration.

You are correct. Found this funny arrangement too the first time I removed the leads but luckily, force of habit, made me put tape on each lead with numbers.

Regards

So the Rover 75 Haynes strikes again! 3-1-5 it is then (ie 3 front coil, 1 middle and 5 back, where front is UK driver's side). Thank you for your response.

Mike,

I agree with what you've said in your edit to post number 1 so it's a bit unfair to criticise Haynes. What it says is correct and it is explained clearly, it just might not be what you and I expected to read!

It makes you wonder why MGR didn't arrange the coils as 1-3-5 as they did on later cars, instead of 3-1-5 .

Fitting the new plugs and leads has solved the misfire problems.
