kv6 poor tickover after heads refitted ?
I've just put everything back after fitting a refurbed pair of cylinder heads to my kv6 , to cure valve stem oil seal leaks . It fired up straight away, initially with a mighty clatter from the cam followers but that has died away now , and I have done a 3 mile road test since .
I am left with an unsteady tickover , and sounds like a misfire , although it runs well once I move off and pick up the revs . What I am wondering , is it in fact correct that the ECU needs a few miles to "relearn " some settings ? I have heard opinions for both yes and no expressed , so would welcome any definitive views please before I start pulling things apart . I have access to a TOAF system so will be looking for any info from that when I get my hands on it !

A recent post by MarinaBrian stated no learning with the exception of the autobox ECU.
However I’m sure I’ve seen somewhere in TOAF sub-section engine something about removing adaptive values. Equally confused |

Cam timing wrong.
Ignition leads swapped. Air leaks. Injector (wire damaged?)

Car runs well on the road so the leads are ok …. Maybe air leaks … Damaged wires maybe …….. Yes , the engine was rotated twice after timing and quite a few times besides before firing up . I don't think the clatter is unusual as the followers are initially filling up with oil . Quiet now

Things move on ! My fault code reader gave P0302 , which it describes as generic - misfire on cylinder 2 . If they count cylinders the way Rover do ( ? ) then this is the front cylinder on the back or right hand bank ; bother , why couldn't it be the easier to access front bank
I got my TOAF back from the chap I lent it to , but now it doesn't want to speak to my car . It has always worked in the past but now it confirms connection but can't find any modules ! I've taken another test drive , and it drives ok but does have a rough tickover . However , when I got back home and switched off then restarted I got a Charging error warning on the dash . I switched off , checked a few things and when I tried to restart , battery was flat ! So I don't know what has happened there but the battery is on charge overnight . I'm off for a pint ………….

I would be very concerned about the clattering noise.

why?............... It has quietened down, hydraulic lifters are noisy if removed and replaced for the initial start up. Is usually absolutely harmless.

Can you expand on your concern , given that the noise went away by the time the engine had warmed up ? All views are welcome at this time
