On a roll here, removed sat nav from boot, stripped off the top and bottom, checked the circuit board and found one of the thicker soldered circuits missing about 10 mm of its solder through corrosion, so i rubbed it clean with my brass wire brush, stuck a blob of solder on each end then soldered some fine copper wire to breach the gap, connected back up to the harness and i now have a working sat nav, granted the disc is a 2006, but at least it now works, i do not condone anyone else to do the repair like i have done, i am only explaining what i did to my own car, follow these steps at your own risk
Tomorrows job is to try and get my headlights clear enough so you can see through them he he he, i cant even see the bulbs at the moment

Are those old sat-navs worth the trouble unless of course you just like fiddling.---

All that out of date info will put you in a field or down a ditch.---

They certainly are worth repairing if you like OEM.

Just a note of warning, Sat navs are notorious for draining the battery if the car is not used for a few days.

you need to make sure the light goes out after the car has shutdown.

lock the car but leave the boot open and watch the red light on the unit. it should go out within 5 mins or so. If not then it has a problem.
