Default Its getting worse

For years I have never had top up the water in the Rad, But recently I have had to start to put a little water in about a large cupful every week or so.And it is now starting to get worse

I can see no obvious signs of a leak,So where is the best place to start looking

Water pump, small hole in radiator, oil cooler or the unlikely head gasket. Also possibly your header tank cap. Is unusual for a diesel to lose water. Lee.

Common coolant leak points for the diesel are the thermostat housing, the O ring on the pipe next to the thermostat, and the top radiator hose connection where it enters the cylinder head.

If you look at the areas suggested by the previous posts you will probably find signs of anti-freeze staining.

Evening all,

I had several water leaks on my diesel which I've now finally fixed.
The hose coming out of the top of the fbh, the elbow on the radiator, the thermostat & finally the small hose at the bottom of the fbh.

I only found the final leak when I took the fbh to service it, and therwise I don't think I'd ever had found it!

Rob

Default Water leak engine

Along with the previous replies I had a water leak from the heater hose of the air filter houseing on the N/sidewhere it had chafed against the underside corner and was not obvious.

There is a hose just down and roughly under the power steering pump.---It can rub against the adjacent silver air con pipe. I've used a cable tie to pull the rubber pipe slightly away from the metal one. Been like that now for years with no friction hole worn in either.

As Mike said above one place to look is the plastic outlet on the engine that carries the top hose and heater hose.
A good customer of mine had a problem with his last week the rubber gasket had failed

I second this, I've had 2 instances where the square gasket has failed on the 'Y' section plastic moulding.
