Re engineing cars
As in the past commercial vechicles have been re engined to meet the emmision standards of the day. Has anyone explored the possibilities of putting a modern either petrol or diesel motor into the 75 or ZT's. Only a thought at the moment but as the number of emmision zones increase and so we can continue to use these cars as every day use ones maybe we should consider the options. I can imagine DVLA might throw a spanner in the works about having to re certify emmissions in any modified cars. Worth a try? Go on Brian you Know it makes sense.

M47R is probably more environmentally friendly that modern derivatives anyway.
No DPF to clog up for a start.

Look at the thread by MG John. He’s put a 1.8 turbo engine into his ZT-T sourced from an MG6. I would imagine it’s got lower emissions.

My Volvo S60 2.5 diesel with a DPF on its last test was 0.01 it does far more to the gallon too despite being half a litre bigger. There's nothing wrong with cars with DPF's if the car is used so that it gets warm enough, the only problems usually arise because they've been used on short journeys or crawling along in rush hour traffic. The amount of soot in the DPF on my S60 is at the same level as when I bought the car 3 years and 30,000 miles ago In answer to the op's question about changing to a newer type of engine is that it would be extremely difficult to do that not so much from a mechanical point of view ( there's probably a few engines that would fit) but it's the integration of the engine management system into the electronics that would be extremely difficult to achieve. I'd rather put an older engine in, for power and reliability - eg a T series turbo in MGZT, on lpg of course....
I have such a project, bit dormant, will I finish it - I dunno. Is it worth the bother? |

Either that's high or mine's unusually low, since my last emissions test result was 0.02.
