Brians hilarious cartoon notwithstanding - I'll keep entries open for while longer: just for fun of course.

Full answer later on - If I don't fall asleep.

The correct torque required would depend on if the bolt was used, condition of the threads, if any lubrication was used and also the grade of bolt.

http://www.norbar.com/Portals/0/down...ValueGuide.pdf

There's also a couple of useful calculations in there to determine how to adjust the torque figures to allow for lubrication and different coatings on bolts.

Bottom line is unless new/very clean correct grade bolts are used with the correct threadlock (if needed) then although the manufactures recommended torque figures are applied then the chances are it won't be 100% accurately torqued anyway

Just as accurate 1kg remains 1kg albeit a more accurately measured 1kg - in fact this can only improve the accuracy of the answer.

And the prize goes to....

CLF - Being the only entrant doesn't disbar you from winning!

Quite correct the answeris 5Nm (rounded to the nearest Nm ).

Although I had to seriously resist giving the answer as zero....

.... Due to the support midway along the bar - which doesn't exist in this version of the finale.

Congratulations to CLF

To clear up any mis-understanding - I have no argument (or competition) with Brian. And take no side in your mutual disagreements.

mass x distance from fulcrum x gravity ? (and I am guessing less the clamp force - which I have read of, whilst I understand what it is, I never learned about it)
