Changing front headlamp bulbs
Just fitted some new bulbs, (2002, 75 tourer) both dipped beam and one sidelight, found that whoever had changed them last had managed to take the dipped bulbs spring off its fixed point, I tried for a good couple of hours to get them back on, fingers skinned in the process, without success. Finally took the front bumper off and pulled the headlight units forward. I would advise anyone finding themselves in a similar situation to do the same, the bumper took a few minutes to remove and the bulb fitting was quick and easy then. Would have saved me a lot of time if I had done this from the start.

Changed one last night, about 5 mins. The car is a facelift though and didn't have that stoopid springclip.
Just thought, is it only reflectors that have the clip? Last edited by Heddy; 10th November 2018 at 16:05.. Reason: More info. |

Last couple of times I got Halfords to do it as it was dark and I didn't want to get grubby.
Unfortunately he didn't clip the wheel arch panel in properly so at some point it disappeared and I drove it spraying mud onto the air intake until I noticed. A Freelander uses the same panel, as I recall.

You can hardly call Halfords professional members of the motor trade, that's like calling B&Q master builders

But they've been extensively trained to recognise which end of the bulb the electrical connector goes onto.

Maybe, but refitting that plastic cover takes a mix of experience and dexterity.
Some two or three years ago I went to Halfords for a pair of tyres for the wife's bike (26 or 27 inch, I forget now), and one 28 inch fo mine. They only didn't have two identical 26 inch, but no worries they had some marked up the same size. Took all three to the counter to pay, and while waiting, noticed that the two identical size marked tyres were noticably different in diameter. I pointer this out to the young lad, saying They must have been made wrongly - "no no, it'll fit" he said. I laid both tyres over each other, said "look it's obviously wrong" - it was the same size as my 28inch! He was insistent it would be fine! I went over to the rack, found two the correct size and paid for them, I still think he didn't believe me... |
