mine also had broken springs and looked low at the back. difficult to see if you don't kmpw what it should look like. take the rear wheel off either side and have w look at the bottom of the springs, there should be a bottom coil of about 1/2 the diameter of the rest. If it is not there then the spring has snapped.

My ZT-T had 2 broken springs & yet still sat right until one day one of them shifted & it dropped, on removal that one was in 3 pieces & the other had snapped half way up. |

They almost always break at the end as the metal is thinner here so more highly stressed and so more vulnerable to corrosion also

Take the rear wheel off on each side and carefully check each end of the spring for "issues".

Well I took KWIL's measurements and mine was indeed much lower so took off wheels and sure enough, as everyone else so helpfully suggested I found two broken coil springs!
Thanks indeed for all your comments pointing to this. I'll get some new ones ordered up. Is it much of a job to replace them? Thanks again, Webbnos. |

It's not too bad a job. there is a how to on here somewhere, although I had to use some cut down spring compressors to get to new springs in (just needed to compress a little bit)

If you can get both rear wheels off of the ground at once it is simple enough. Drop them both together so you don't have to undo the anti-roll bar. Then simply wriggle them into place. Mine was a ZTT so slightly lower than the 75 so springs didn't need compressing at all to fit (other than by hand). The broken ones will come out easier! Remember to align the drain holes in the lower rubber mounts with the holes in the lower arm to prevent them filling with water and rotting.
Compared to swapping a front spring it is simple. 30 mins a side I reckon. |

Thanks everyone. I got some replacement coil springs and replaced them at the weekend. The job wasn't too bad, I managed to compress them with ratchet straps, although wouldn't recommend it in case they slip off and bounce into ones' own head!
The old ones came out with the bottom coil snapped, as shown in the photos from E_T_V. Its a bit higher now, my dogs have further to jump! Thanks. |
