This link with a V8, wheel spinning, was not mine, but a clip I found on fastsaloons.com - one of their roadtests...

http://www.fastsaloons.com/newsstory...ld=2353&type=9
(the video link is top right)

Anyway - after further delving - that car has a heck of a story...
It is vin 183 I am led to believe, so should be a MkI, but it was pulled off the line and built as a MkII (not just a bumper/light conversion) for press work (as well as its sister which featured on Top Gear, 5th Gear etc). The owner has posted on 260s (and maybe elsewhere) - called Michael (...not the car).

It appears to be currently for sale on pistonheads http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/140939.htm and features many engine mods....no idea if all or some were part of the press build...to get it to accelerate as shown in video...

edit by Keith
Copied from elsewhere on the forum and worth a post here to drool about
What we need now is one doing the same with a Supercharger fitted

The review of the 260 and of the 190 would make a good first read for anyone in the market for either model

I don't understand the background to this car.
I enquired about it several months ago when it was up for £14,500.00.
The owner told me that he specified the TV as an extra (as it is a MK2 non-se), and said he had all the engine mods done by ??? (can't remember - but it was a legit MGR specialist company I've heard of several times on these forums) and it cost him near £3k (with invoice to prove)

However, some time later, I was talking to a chap who bought my old Spectre Chromactive 260, and he viewed this car. He said it was being used as a taxi, and that the engine mods were really poor, cheap and 'boy racer' style. He aslo said the engine was very tappety and in poor health. The bodywork was said to be mint though.

This raises the following questions:
Reading the other post, I gather the engine mods were done by MGR though?
And it is a MK1 SE (as it has TV and heated seats) with MK2 treatment?
So insurance group wise, it is group 20 not 19?

To be honest I don't either....I was aware of the car used for the fastsaloons.com testing and then put 2 and 2 together when I did a search for the reg on 260s and xpf.
You can see in the photoshoot at the time it was brand new (ie a press car) it had the technical dash, sat nav, cruise and traction - no heated seats. Strange too as the switch over to official MkII builds down the line was at something like 214 and this is 183 (I think).
I also seem to recall someone posting about a car with revised cams etc...and it not running well....the images in the original photoshoot look totally standard to me in the engine dept - so this probably was an aftermarket addition...was it Autocraft perhaps..?
Also - there is concern from some parties regarding the use of an underdrive pulley kit - no idea how valid - but the theory is that it can cause micro-vibrations in the crank.

Well I really fancied having this car a while back ( ), but I think the only thing to do, is steer well clear. There are too many anomalies in the history of this car, and nothing seems to stack up on it at all

For some reason "adding comments" has been disabled for the video.
Wonder why?
