Talking Buying a ZT 260 ZT-T 260

Having sold my TVR I've decided I need to get a ZT 260 or a ZT-T260, I miss the v8.
If anyone has any advice or knows any good ones for sale I'd apprecate your help.
I'd prefer the praticallity of the estate but prefer the took of the saloon so could go either way on that one, I don't really need the estate though.
I'd prefer one with full leather so an se would be great but would consider a non se especially for a zt-t. I'd prefer a facelifted one.
I'm after one with as low a mileage as possible.
Looking at the classifieds on PH and autotrader it looks like there are quite a few around for 10-11k even from dealers or a bit more for a ztt se if any one knows some history on the ones for sale please e-mail me.
Many thanks,
Gareth.

yeah the current ones are around the £10-11k mark which is low for a lot of car, check out www.two-sixites.com for everything you need to know, where you can ask the owners questions.

the things to look out for are the heater hose, but again through the two-sixites club you can get an up rated hose and are easy enough to fit having done mine sometime ago. you should find all the information you need to know searching this forum

Many thanks, some useful stuff there.
I must admit I'm getting quite excited about getting one.
One of my mates has a ZT-T 190+ which is a great car, with a v8 it must be superb.
I've had a good insurance quote for one, a lot less than it would be for a monaro for some reason, in fact it's not that much more than the alfa 156 I'm driving at the moment.
I've emailed a couple of ads so hopefully I can go and look at a couple next weekend.
Can anyone confirm when the road tax increase was effective from, It looks like any car registered after March 2006 will be £400 next year from what I can find.

yeah that is correct, march 2006, although there aren't many 260 registered after that time.

If you go and look at some, make sure to note the Vin Number (last 3 numbers in the build number on the windscreen) and post it here or in the other 260 forums.

Due to the limited build number you will often find someone on XPF/75ZT or TwoSixties may have some info on the car.

Estates are much rarer than saloons, and sometimes sell for more because of that.

Out of the 883 made, about 215 were MK1s so you are in luck that you prefer the face lifted MK2s The interiors in the mk2s also don’t rattle

Cheers Sh4rky,
I've been thinking about getting one for about a month, missed a couple that looked good so far, like this one:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/243397.htm

I can't make my mind up an estate, as you say theres a lot more saloons so I'm more likely to find one of them I want, I don't really need an estate but it would be useful.
I've emailed a couple and they both have low mileage but no history at all which surprises me a bit for this sort of car. One is a 1 owner and has only done 2k on a 54 plate so I guess you could say thats not so bad, the other one has had 2 owners and done 12k on a 05 and has lost its history.
The 2k one is a bit more than I wanted to spend as well, but could be worth it as it sounds mint.

I realise some of them will have been sat around for a while unsold but these two wern't.

Whats the consensus on the SE spec, I'm sort thinking it adds weight and is more to go wrong, but some of them seem really are fully loaded and a lot of it sounds really nice, especially the leather and satnav, who am I kidding, plus the rest of it. The extra for an se one doesn't seem to be that much considering what you get.

Arrgh... this is going to be hard.

Hopefully I can get out to see a couple next weekend, the couple I've spotted so far are a bit of a trek.

Check over at XPForums. There are a couple of users who are selling their cars. Personally I believe thats always a good starting point as they will obviously know the car well through the wealth of information available to them through the forums. You will often find their cars will have all the mods and little things that need sorting sorted.

Also worth noting (I have no experience of this, and am recollecting others opinions) but its been suggested by various people such as Keith of these forums and dreadnaught that the engines in the 260s take about 20k miles to settle in and loosen up. Keith mentioned to me that he could feel a big difference between a car with less than 10k miles and a car with over 30. (Looser gearbox, more free revving engine etc)
Just worth considering if you arent going to do many miles a year it could take a while for you to actually start to fully experience the cars performance.

As for SE and non SE models; depends on how many toys you like I guess. You will often find many non SEs still have a good chunk of options installed. I was lucky with my non SE in that it had the satnav and Highline installed (by Keith again ) and the other SE options I honestly dont miss. From memory; head light washers, electric seats, full leather and rear electric windows.
I clean my own lights, my seat doesnt move, not keen on full leather, I don't sit in the back. I wouldnt mind with Cruise Control though... and like I say I use the highline and the satnav enough to warrant considering an SE over a non SE.

Is the price that different between the spec levels? If not you may as well just go the little extra and get the full fat version.

No doubt some of the other guys will fill you in on things to look out for. From the top of my head:
FSH, Wet carpets/boot, Fuel clip mod, Aircon (biggie) does it whine, does it get hot/cold. Oh and as peter mentioned above: the heater hose. The original WILL blow, get a twosixties one

This a valuable read to beef up knowledge and things to look for out for: http://www.spunagain.co.uk/ZT260page.html

you dont want one of those, they are underpowered, eat tyres, drink fuel, whine, clunk and are noisy.

seriously though ( Ive had mine a month and am hooked !!) now is a good time to buy, view as many as you can, dont be afraid to walk away if you arent 100%, Id echo the info above, and try Peter Best for insureance, I got mine for £100 more than a diesel ZT
