Default official workshop manual

Sorry to reopen this thread, but I do intend to buy an official workshop manual, in printed paper form, from an approved source. However, there is still a question over alternative sources and the format of the book.
Having never seen one, what size is it? This might seem a stupid question, as all other car manuals I have seen, official, Haynes, Autobooks etc are all of a similar size, around A4 or slightly larger.
However, most of the ads for the 75 manual do not give the size, the one that does states A5, ie half the usual size. Is this right? Is it that small, or does this imply this particular vendor (via Amazon) is offering a reduced size unofficial copy?
Understandbly I'd rather pay £30 than £50 for it, but not for a substandard version. Any comments / advice?

Not worth the money more knowledge and how to do things on here.
I have one never used it.
Hard to follow and no electrical diagrams.

Thanks Brian, it's what I would have expected

Surprised there are no wiring diagrams, as freddie says. Expected that section to be more comprehensive than Haynes, and with out the mistakes. However, I assume that those jobs which Haynes omits as being best left to professionals are fully detailed.
Surely it must be worth adding to the library alongside the Thatcham book on 75 body repairs.

Just looked at the reviews in Amazon, one reviewer states it's a copy of the official manual where although the book is A4 size, each page has two A5 pages side by side. All sellers seem to be offering the same version, published by Brooklands books, prices from the various book sellers range from £32 to £50

So my question is - Is this the format of the official version available from Rimmers, Xpart (and elsewhere?) or a substandard authorised or unauthorised copy? Certainly I wouldn't want it if this was the format, I'd be expecting a format similar to manuals of old, like those of my other Rover workshop manuals going back to the P4.

Mike, I'd like to send you a message, however you seem to have the PM system disabled for incoming messages.

Send me a PM please and I'll reply if that's easier for you

Don't know why, just been exchanging pms with another member, might this have been an issue, two at the same time?
However, have to rush off, so will pm you tomorrow.

Yes, the Amazon, etc. item is the same volume and is the official MG Rover Group Copyright 2003.

This is the book sold by Xpart/Rimmer:http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-RP1012OE

Having purchased one myself -

- I have to say I'm a little disappointed with both the quality and the quantity of it. As said already, there are no circuit diagrams, nor are there any explanatory sections telling about how the various systems function. Those familiar with R*** will know how especially useful that is. This manual is strictly about taking things to bits and replacing them. I suppose that's literally what a workshop manual is.

As for the presentation of the info, I've found it so damned awkward to read. The pages are not of the quality you'd expect of such an expensive tome and they're printed sideways in a pretty small font. That means trying to flip through the thing from top to bottom rather than the way most books work, right and left. It's also a paperback, which means it gets creased very easily because of its own weight. IMO disappointing in all respects.

For the latter you need the System Description and Operation manual, a separate book, which I don't think was ever released to the general public. I got hold of a paper ring-bound copy that was used by an ex-dealer's workshop.

For the former, pretty much the same again I think, I have seen them on eBay in the past but not managed to get one. Again not available for the public to buy Thankfully a kind member shared the diagrams from a copy of RAVE so I now have the information (albeit for 2003 & 2004 models with later loom/fusebox).

When I had my 620ti before the factory went, I wanted the official manuals, so I just bought them from my local Rover dealer. I remember I bought almost everything in printed sections. Even the MEMS manual with all the tech details.
I sold them a couple of years ago on ebay. There must be some for our cars, floating about somewhere....unless they never produced them? Steve
