Ok so i should start by checking the battery? What should the battery voltage read? can't use a hydometer test as it's a sealed battery. What should the battery read when the engine is running?

this is where people go wrong ,by the battery show 12v with engine off and 14v with the engine only confirms the alternator is charging ,this test will not show if a battery is taking a charge. a battery supplier can test the health of your battery . if a cell in the battery is dead then it wont hold the charge or wont be able to hold it for long .

So my battery is showing 12.78 after being stood overnight, after the sat nav unit in the boot has done its cycle when you open the car. Battery's which show just over 12v are deffo dodgy in my opinion. so time will tell since the over heater is disconnected weather or not my 1 year old battery is U.S.

In your calculations on how much is drawn from the battery do not forget that you need to include the starter motor amps.
Short runs will not replace the current used and can slowly discharge the battery.
