Out of options....
Hi,
My Precious Rover 75, 2.5v8 auto Saloon, 80k miles has been giving me battery issues for the past 8months. I left her alone for a year and she wasnt please on my return. I have attempted to get local shops to get her to run properly, but no one could out her battery issues. Today I was going to take her up to visit West End Lane Motors in Pinner. I bought a Yesper yj20 so I could jump start the car - flat batter again. I connected the Yesper, but that didnt work. However, when pulled out the key, the engine began turning over continuously!!! I disconnected the Yesper, still the engine turned over. The only solution was to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. When I attempted to reconnect the terminal, sparks fly everywhere and the engines begins to turn over. The negative terminal on the battery is now slightly damaged due to the sparking. I am slowly giving up. So.... - Does anyone know of a mobile engineer that will come out to London NW10 to see whats up? - Does anyone know of anyone will to take her away, see what up, fix it and return her to me. If not, she will need to be retired |

Am I right in understanding that the battery keeps going flat but is a known good battery i.e. doesn't need replacing? If it is, there must be a current draw whilst the car is off and this may well be connected to the starter motor that's stuck on. An electrical gremlin of some sort, possibly due to water ingress during that year she was parked up. Maybe an automotive electrician would be best placed to take a look at it?

Nobody has yet to mention 2 common faults.
1. Plenum chamber. If the drains get blocked, it can flood and the ecu gets wet. 2. If a Highline model, the unit in the boot can have a fault where it doesn't shut down properly. The red light on the satnav box stays on showing incorrect shutdown & hence current drain. Have these been checked? |

Try Russell Walsh at MGROVERSOLUTIONS.COM he is fully mobile. A few members on here have used his services.
Or Try Mike Stafford at MJSAUTOANDMARINE.CO.UK another fully mobile mechanic. I have had Mike come to me a few times when I lived in Essex. Or Try roughluckracing.com Or mg-rover mobile mechanics.com

Sounds as though the ecu has gone swimming. Check plenum.
