replacing facelift grille badge
This isn't very technical but I thought I'd ask..
I have a Rover 75 facelift edition with a horrible faded badge on the grille. I've just bought a proper stick on badge to replace it - to look smart again. Should be fairly simple to peel off the old one and then stick the new one on in its place? I expect some white spirit or something might be an idea to clean the surface...? |

Mine didn't fade (not old enough at the time), I simply preferred the Mk1 style.

Trouble is, the older cars had a proper metal badge which could be removed from the grille and replaced, but with the shapeshifters the whole grille is one piece, including a nasty little sticker which isn't really meant to be replaced, I reckon …

I bought a replacement badge for my facelift R75 as the original was horribly faded and disintegrating. The replacement went the same way in a few weeks. I too then bought an older style badge, which apart from being more robust I think looks better. The new badge is still stick-on, but it is much thicker and showing no signs of fading so far. I cocked up on the dimensions however, and it is smaller than the original (for a Rover 25 I think), but I fitted it anyway and it actually looks OK with about a 1 cm gap all round. To get the old one off, I used a length of thin nylon cord (kite string) which I forced behind the top of the badge then pulled it left and right in a sawing action to cut downwards through the adhesive behind. A bit of rubbing with white spirit afterwards removed the remaining sticky bits. |

Mine is an original Mk1 badge, so virtually identical in size. I didn't bother removing the old wafer-thin Mk2, but simply stuck the Mk2 straight on top. I think I had to cut a mounting lug (maybe two?) off the rear side first. It's been in place fourteen years and still looks like new. I suspect a lot of the badges available from retailers, eBay, etc. are mass produced copies.
