Default The MG6 K-series engine kit?

Hi all,

2 weeks ago I was on the phone with D. Johnson, who was recommended to me as a good Rover mechanic. He told me there where kits that could convert the Rover K-series engine into the MG6 version of the K-series engine. The benefit would be that the MG6 has some small improvements.

The kit would make sure that the resulting engine would fit nicely in the Rover 75, keeping it on the road for another 50 years ( ).

However, I can't seem to find anything on the interweb about this. Can somebody help me by pointing me in the right direction?

I am guessing that this may be the kit you are referring to:-

Use drop down menu on page for full list

Not 100% sure to be honest. From what I understood there where a few more parts that could be changed. Mr Johnson made it sound like half the engine would be changed?

Not forgetting that the liners have to be correct to fit the multilayer gasket etc., etc.

See the drop down list for all the parts and read the text on the page re. the "other items". From DMGRS page QUOTE

"

It's finally here - when SAIC revised the K Series for fitting to the MG7, they changed the construction of the Head Gasket, used higher-tensile Head Bolts and fitted a re-enforced Lower Oil Rail. You can now fit these parts to your K Series-engined MG Rover vehicle.

The revised engine used in the MG7 also had minor engine block and head changes, however the majority of the changes were brought about by the items included in this kit. "

Pretty much, yes. Although the SAIC N series is perfectly interchangeable with the MGR K-series, there are design improvements to pretty much every part of the engine.

Main thing being a pressure cast block with additional stiffening put in to increase the rigidity, which is why the N series can have a knock sensor in the MG6.

So there is a bit more to it than meets the eye.
Well, seeing as Mr Johnson came highly recommended, and he did tell me he had done a few more with this conversion, I am confident that he knows his stuff.

I was mainly looking to get a bit more information on the subject so I understand better what operation he was talking about. Seeing as I need to get several things done, getting an engine swap might be a better option on the long term.

Perhaps he was referring to the N-series engine, instead of an old upgraded K-series?

The original wet liner K series definately had a knock sensor, was it deleted later on then?
