Thumbs up Sill drain holes

Following an MOT advisory on both sills for mild corrosion - had them repaired - one was pretty minor but one required 18 inches replacing -in doing so taking out the jacking pad hole and the drain hole. Do i need to make my own drain hole ? I suspect yes.

Welcome views/suggestions.

There are several drain holes along the base of the sills and water is free to run along the sill, so it's up to you. Just make sure that the patches are supported (as a jacking point) by the reinforced section that transmits weight to the car frame. I use the drain holes and a 360 degree lance nozzle to spray rustproofing compound into the length of the sills.

I think i will drill some drain holes to match those on the other sill - suspect it will be 2. Like you i use dinitrol on a long hose -some suggest its best to remove the trim and feed the dinitrol in via the trim clip holes but then you run the risk of losing half your trim clips.

What about those big foam disc thingies inside the sills - some sort of acoustic device iirc. There's a pic of one somewhere but I can't find it at the moment. They would stop water travelling from one end of the sill to the other (inside).

According to Rave , there are an inner sill and an outer sill sections . To spray into the outer sill you use the trim clip holes , and to spray the inner sills you use the drain holes .
And yes , the trim clips break if you even think of removing them !

Rave manual - corrosion prevention - sections 77-4-1 and 77-4-2

You can also get access to the outer sills by pulling back the arch liners at the bottom of the wings.

How do you get the chrome trim off without kinking/bending it?

(The one shown in Rave 77-4-1)

I didn't find there was any risk of bending it ; it was quite strong enough to withstand the process . The clips are at approx 6" centres , so start at one end and lever the clips out by springing the trim back just enough to slip a screwdriver behind the next clip from underneath . Once you have a couple out you will be able to see the next one along
I have seen a thread on here where a chap threaded a length of flat cord behind the trim and was able to pull the trim upwards , so disengaging the top edge of the clip and allowing the trim to be lifted off without breaking the clips
https://the75andztclub.co.uk/forum/s...ll+trim+thread
I bought some new clips in preparation ; I broke half of the old ones !

I think I'll give the flat cord idea a try (shame the pics have gone from that thread).

I've got some of that unbreakable nylon strapping stuff - I'm not sure what it's called but it's the kind used on heavy parcels. It's a flat band, about 12mm wide and quite thin - probably thin enough to slide under the chrome trim. And it's easily strong enough.
