Default My gear knob broke off......

So i own a nice Rover 75 2.0 v6 2001.

It had a half leather gear knob when i bought it.
So i went online to find a full walnut one as i find it nicer with the interior.
I managed to find one and bought it for only 25 euros

It was new and in the Original Rover parts box. product number is UKJ000390ANV (sorry i cant add pictures)

So i pulled the half leather one off. And tried putting the walnut one in. It didnt go in all the way.(in the white stick) But i was still able to drive with it. Today i tried to put it in 1st gear from neutral when i was in a hurry. And apparently the gear knob was all the way up on the gear stick and i broke off the white stick............. like 2/3 cm off the stick broke off in my new walnut gear knob. I still had my old half leather one laying around so i have put that one in. It is a bit lower now because the gear stick is missing a few centimeters but i am able to drive......

I have drilled the broken piece out of my walnut gear knob and tried getting it on again..... But it just seems like the white gear stick is too thick on the bottom part? It wont fully go in. I am unable to drive because its too lose with the walnut gearknob.

So can anyone give me advice what i should do
I really want to use my walnut gearknob. And i assume it must fit my rover 75?

And btw can/do i have to order a new white gear stick? Is it easy to replace?

two different types of knob as far as the fittings are concerned.you car has the early type white plastic gear shaft for which the early type knob fits which has also has white plastic insert.the later type which fits onto a metal tapered shaft has a black insert.

That is correct sir. The one that fits has indeed a white plastic insert. And the walnut one has a black plastic insert

Im so sad right now. Is it possible to replace the gear shaft with black one then so i can still use my walnut gear knob eventually?

you could change the gear change shaft for the later type which then would allow to fit it.it is only the shaft that differs (i think) or perhaps swop with someone who may have the early one for a car with the latter shaft.

Just did a online search and i was unable to find any.

I live in the Netherlands and there arent as many Rover 75s out here as in the UK. So swapping isnt a option either.

Would this work?---> i make the bottom part of the white stick less thick by sandpapering it so that my walnut one fits. Then i use some hot glue on it so it is steady and wont spin/move.
