Thanks all!
I only took them back to the bare metal where I made repairs. I was surprised how thick the original Polish paint was so left it alone where it was in good condition. I keyed it with a good scrub of medium abrasive Scotchbrite then primed with a primer/sealer before going to the colour coat. Any bare alloy got a couple of coats of zinc chromate primer first.
The paint I used is made by Duplicolor and is a system designed specifically for doing wheels. It is darker than the original sparkle silver but they only make the one shade. Their system involved doing 2-3 colour coats followed by 2-3 clear coats all in one go. It goes on very well and flows beautifully. Lasts well too.

I had one set of wheels shipped here by airfreight. They were 15" 6-spokes for my MGF and it cost a pretty penny. I wouldn't want to pay for shipping on 18's!
John, The passenger trains here are now shut down like most everything else. The only way to get over the Rockies now is to drive!

The highlighted area is where the leak was coming in, although I sealed all the way from the rear screen end all the way along behind the boot hinge.

I have just been looking at mine to try and solve a water leak on the offside of the boot near the sat nav drive, the seam sealant seemed to be all cracked so suspect water might be getting in through there.

I had a tin of brushable seam sealer in the garage so have spread some of this in the seam and after letting it set painted it in body colour, will leave it until tomorrow and water test it.

I had exhausted every other known leaking point, it must be an age thing nowadays.
