Anyone fitted ZT190 front brakes to a lesser model?
As per title really - I am wondering whether to upgrade the front brakes on my CDTi tourer - particularly if I start towing my MGF Sprint car to events.
Has anyone done it, and what's involved? Might nip down to a local scrap yard and scavenge the parts. IIRC there was something different about the front uprights on the 190 versus the lesser models... can't remember the details now (such a long time ago) - and the Rimmer parts catalogue wasn't immediately revealing as to the differences (other than different calipers and discs etc). Thanks! |

Hi there! Done this myself early this year!! - makes a nice difference!!
You need discs/pads/calipers/carriers (get the steady springs too!!) and its a straight swop of parts and a quick bleed !! I confess I used new pads/discs (groved and drilled) for the look of the thing!! You will be stuck with using 18" wheels from then on mind!! (apart from some very rare 17" that were mostly fitted to the V8's I belive!!) no 16" with cheap winter tyres!! - Oh and if you get a front puncture and you have a space saver spare you have to fit that to a back wheel first and move the alloy rear to the front!! HTH?? Andy Last edited by Trophy Blue Tourer; 27th September 2011 at 07:38.. |

I did it to my last ZT which was a V6 160, best mod i did, i fitted 2nd hand discs, pads, calipers, carriers and got new brake hoses, which are longer that all other models (some people have used their old hoses will no problems)

Thanks Chaps - what I thought I guess. Good to hear that it makes such a positive difference too!
Love the red calipers there Andy One question though, when you say "Carrier", do you mean the wheel hub carrier? (item (1) in figure below) Cheers |

http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=89498 - I recently sold the complete upgrade kit, should show you everything you need.
You can see the carrier is the blue bit resting on the ground. |

Aha! I see - the carrier part of the caliper assembly? In that case, this ought to be a doddle. I always had the impression that there was more to it? Clearly not!!!
Next time I am in the scrappy, I'll have a search round for a 190, and pick up the parts (basically just the caliper, buy new pads/ discs) Nice, thanks chaps! |

Brake upgrade
I use a local breaker and he supplies kits
Front and rear for ZT 190 for 90 - 100 depending on the cost of donar car. I have fitted to ZT160 1.8T and my ZTT Cdti well worth it. However my own view is to replace pads at least so you know what you have when using 2nd hand parts |
