Planning on 160 if I can get to a meet.

Its getting there but certainly better than it was.
I found a good bosch MAF, PCV filter, good oil, fuel filter and injector flush and a new air filter made a 30% improvement on the figures when I first bought the car...

recently did a run to barrow in furness from Peterborough area 573 miles round trip and had 50 miles left in the range on one full tank...

I only use Shell or BP with the odd tank of V Power nitro plus, I also use Kent Fuel Guard in the tank, the only thing I have yet to clean is the inlet manifold but its not bad cruddy, getting the temp higher may help though even if it is just 5 degree's.

Just to add my 2p

recently had to drive to Repton near Derby, then on to Buxton & reverse journey, & then the week travelling to/from work. Brim to brim was 62.5ltr & a total of 627 miles with 27 on the range indicator. That works out at 45.7mpg.

Clearly I have a problem! The best fuel economy I've ever got out of our ZTT CDTi (manual) is 40mpg on gentle motorway cruising at around 70mph.

That's an improvement, by the way, over what it had been doing until Philip had identified that the Pierburg MAF was not functioning at all - and since then, the RoverRon MAFAM has been removed and the MAF replaced with an OEM Bosch item from Eurocarparts.

A great many threads on diesel fuel consumption - can any one give me a route-map for identifying what problem(s) I have with this car?

Many thanks!

In town the auto is limited to 3rd gear at best, but ave is 2nd gear when crossing town, so you will be lucky to beat 30 MPG innit.. Nowt wrong with your car..

If I stay off the local mways I get about 28 MPG. And my car is running well. but it's all 30 mph limits round here. 30+ mpg is roughly the speed required for the auto box to change up to 3rd gear, so that virtually rules out 3rd gear innit... ...

Hmm - now I have read a few threads, two areas to look at I think:
1. Clean the EGR (or even replace with a bypass?)
2. Replace the PCV filter (I have no idea when that was last done)

Any other thoughts? I've read about the thermostat modification: is this really worth it chaps?
A 135 or 160 remap would be lovely - but one thing at a time eh?
