Parking sensors broken, have I found the right spot for fix?

Hello everyone,

I own a 2003 Rover 75 1.8. My parking sensors haven't been working for a while, I was looking behind the trunk panels (right side) and I found some cables but were unsure if this was where the cables are for the parking sensors.

Hi Erik.
Yes the parking aid module should be there it will either be black or white depending on the year of the car, white was the later ones 2004 onwards.

Are your reverse lights working if not it could be the reverse switch, it could also be the wiring behind the bumper corroded.

If you hear a long (5 secs) tone when selecting reverse, but no pings when close to an obstruction, one likely source of the problem is superficial condensation/corrosion between the plugs and their sockets on the box in the offside rear wing, as illustrated. I find it tends to be the white, rearward plug/socket. It is usually sufficient to remove and replace the plug a couple of times to clear the problem.

Hi all

My sensors stopped working ( ie the common issue of a single long bleep when you first select reverse and then nothing else)

One recommendation has always been to put the car into reverse, ignition on but engine not running, and listening very carefully to each sensor to listen for one that isn't clicking to identify the faulty one.

That will definitely work, but don't be fooled if they ALL click! All mine were clicking but I still had the problem.

So I removed the bumper to get at the sensors (early 2001 saloon) and cleaned every connection in sight even though they were all clean with no corrosion anywhere.

The sensors were still clicking. The system still didn't work. The swear box was full!

Anyway, I got hold of a second hand working sensor and starting swopping it out for "my" individual sensors.

When it came to substituting my offside corner sensor... which I had heard ticking previously...the system worked fine!

So if you find yourself in the same position as me (full swear box! ) then try swopping out your clicking sensors with another one. You never know....

Same here, John. All of my sensors passed the "click test" but the system still had a fault. I scanned the module with TOAF which told me the outer nearside sensor was faulty. I swapped it out for a new one and that fixed it. The "click test" isn't a robust method of diagnosis but can work sometimes.
