Default Blocking the EGR

Two questions -

1) Am I right in thinking I can disable the ERG by basically bunging up the little pipe the vacuum hose fits onto? I have some 2-pack epoxy which I thought I'd fill the end of the pipe with (not the hose). A cheap "by-pass" if you like.

2) If I disable the EGD by doing the above, does this eliminate the gunge build-up within the EGR and inlet manifold?

Just want to double check before I go and wreck my car

Nearly right for th 1/2 on here that do not believe in a full bypass.
Make sure it is clean and fully closed to start with, then just pinch the pipe shut and put the rubber tube back.
I would not use epoxy just in case it came loose and ended up in your vaccum system.
A full bypass is easy enough to do and you should then have a trouble free system.

I do think so ,since it's closed at rest:

IMHO ,Simpler and cheaper than a bypass .

That little diagram explains it all. I'm guessing therefore stops the build-up of crud aswell then?

So where does the exhaust gas go then once blocked, does it just build up pressure or go somewhere else?

yes it goes out the exhaust and gives off dangrous nox for people to breath in plus the engine is hotter as it helps cool the combustion chambers.wrong thing to do in my opinion..no ned for a bypass just keep the egr clean for far more benifit .not only that the egr is on a to meet emmission laws, how many members have told insurance company of a by pass i wonder .as i egr is blocked off the car is not legal, plus it can make the car over boost and smoke more,

Hi Mike!

A properly done by-pass unit will have a solid disc on the side in the correct position for the pipe to be refitted to using the orginal clamp and this will seal off the end of the flex metal pipe!!

HTH?

Andy

P.s as an aside I have noticed a few people have reported having this "flex" pipe crack with a loss of power and exhaust fumes/smoke in the engine bay so it worth pointing out that you could actualy remove it and blank the other "end" of it using a suitable sized metal disc in both clamps and removing the pipe altogether !!

this would then give you an EGR by-pass effect - other than the muck/blockage of the valve would still be there of course!!
