The ashtray assembly is very easy to take out....once youve removed the switch and ATC panel, there is a clip on either side. Depress both, and the whole assembly comes out in one go.

HTH

HTH
Thanks David

I know, having had the assembly out on several occasions.

It's just inertia on my part I think.

If you are refering to the spring loaded flap, it's really part of the whole lower assembly. It's possible to remove it, but you do need to take the whole assembly out to do it, which is not as it may seem a huge job...

Fixed it.

What a pain in the nether regions though The one downside to having the Pioneer head unit.

In the end it wasn't a mechanism failure either. The cable loom to the cigar lighter moves along a channel in the back of the moulding when the cigar lighter is popped forward or backwards and it had become trapped last time I re-fitted it.

One to watch out for.

This is most likely my problem also, Paul. I'll have to bite the bullet and dismantle my dash also.

Best of luck Eammon.

I thought I could get it out with just the switch panel and CCU removed but, of course, I was forgetting that the head unit brackets are supported by the CCU

When I saw the wiring behind the unit I was, quite frankly, amazed.

If it becomes apparent that the trapped cable loom your problem, I ensured it would not happen again by refitting the unit with the cigar lighter fully extended, ensuring that the cable loom in question was already inside the channel.
