I liked the part about "Rover 75 not being reliable to take someone to hospital"...... last week when it was very cold and icy here (-3) there was one vehicle in my road which would not start and had to be attended by the RAC.

Pleased to say it was not a 13 year old Rover 75, but a 4 year old RANGE ROVER.

So from this we can learn that if you need to take someone to hospital and its cold and icy "DON'T BUY A RANGE ROVER".

From experience, and for impending urgent delivery, one is best served by an Austin Cambridge A55 (cream and blue) reg. 388 RMH in 1965 (which would only start on the handle and with a column change) and a Rover 2000 (Arden Green) reg. UOY 961F in 1969 (which was my first Rover of more than I can remember and with the shortest gear lever I had ever seen). Two wonderful girls who continue to amaze and delight. Oh, and the same wife.

The column change fascinated me, I would always imagine myself driving one of those big American car's you see in the movies

Yep, I am fully aware the above smiley is not a column change

I used to have a Ford Consul MK2 with a front bench seat and three speed column change, I loved it

I briefly owned an Oldsmobile Cutless Supreme with an electric front bench seat.

Chaps, the OP expressed an opinion based on his personal experiences - I for one do not have a problem with that and I certainly do not feel that he should be labelled a troll.

There are a lot of neglected 75s out there and I would not buy another without a great deal of care and due diligence based on my own knowledge and experience.

I love my 75 because of it's character, uniqueness and because it is a Rover. I have spent far more money on the current CDT than I would have on any other car of its age in order to get it up to scratch. It does have shortfalls, but for me the above characteristics more than make up for these.

I can imagine that having to deal with drenched carpets during winter would not be nice. We do not know of his personal circumstances which may not be helping.

It would be better to support the OP and point him towards all the available information on sources of leaks and fixes.

My wedding car was such a vehicle, a Mk 1. Immaculate, unrestored, it went on to provide many happy memories! One of which was the vacuum wiper system.

'Upon approaching the upward incline in a shower of rain it will be helpful for the owner to select the intermediate gear to ensure engine revolutions are suitably high to maintain a clear windscreen'.

The original intermittent facility in its infancy. Ahhh. Trying to get the speedo needle right over to the other side when it was raining was futile. The Rover 75 is the culmination of design and innovation in so many respects.
